Abstract
The difficulties with natural weather that led to construction of Ford's weather tunnels are described, together with brief examples of typical tests which have been performed effectively in the artificial environment.
Inadequacies of the first facility are discussed, as are changes in the nature of test problems which dictated new design criteria for a second weather tunnel. As an example, the evolution of a typical test procedure is traced in detail.
A picture tour of Ford's “Hurricane Road” is given, with a functional description of some of the major mechanical installations and operating characteristics.
