Abstract
A permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) can be used not only to drive the vehicle’s mechanical power output but also to generate electricity to charge the high-voltage battery in the process of braking energy recovery and floating energy recovery in hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). In the process of electric power generation, the energy consumption of the high-voltage battery will be recovered to reduce fuel consumption. However, when the relays are cut off due to a critical failure in the battery management system (BMS), the 12 V battery is easily consumed by the low-voltage accessories. In this paper, a novel control mode of the PMSM is proposed to maintain the capacitance voltage by controlling the PMSM to generate electricity to satisfy the 12 V power requirement to increase the driving distance. In this situation, the mechanical power will come only from the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) of the HEV. In this new method, we design the parameters of the transfer function and verify them in simulation. The algorithm was also tested in a real HEV. The purpose of verification was to ensure the feasibility of this novel control method and that this method would not cause damage to the inverter or other equipment. Finally, the verification proves that the new method can tackle the critical failure condition in the BMS.
