Abstract
We have fabricated a multifunctional converter that is equipped with functions required to treat all the regulated components of diesel vehicle emissions and a self-heat exchanger that internally transfers heat from downstream to upstream of the converter, increasing the temperature of the converter and, thereby substantially improving its performances. In an experiment using a 3.3L engine operated under a transient mode (NRTC), NOx and PM reduction rates respectively reached more than 90 and 99% due to efficient heating and keeping of the exhaust gas temperature at 320°C, regardless of the raw exhaust gas temperatures ranging from 100 to 390°C.
