Development of Thermal Soak Analysis on Under Hood Heat Damage

This paper describes the transient analysis method at the thermal soak after the engine shut off. This analysis method is able to show the time history of temperature and velocity in the engine room only from design information such as exhaust pipe shape, radiator specification and so on. The temperature of the parts showed a good correlation between experiment and CFD simulation (within 20°C). The prediction accuracy was influenced from the time history of velocity change around the parts and the thermal capacity of the catalyst.
