Reduction of Drag by an Attached Wind Deflector on the Container of a Truck

Recently, reduction of CO₂ emissions from automobiles is carried out in the world. Passenger cars have been improved aerodynamics and reduced CO₂ emissions by various studies. However, there is some room for improvement between trucks and trailers in aerodynamics. This paper proposes a shape of wind deflector attached on the container of a truck to reduce the drag. As verification of the effect, the drag and flow patterns over a truck model were measured in a small wind tunnel. As a result, it was confirmed that the drag could be reduced without losing container space.
