Experimental Study on Drag Reduction of a Road Vehicle by Use of an Air Dam
Published October 03, 2012 by Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan in Japan
The purpose of the present research is to investigate effects of the air dams attached to a notchback car on the aerodynamic characteristics and develop them. The wind-tunnel experiments using a moving belt were carried out and it was shown that the drag was decreased by the air dams. Furthermore, distributions of surface pressures and oil flow patterns were investigated, and the mechanism of drag reduction were classified into four factors.
