Load Transfer Analysis Using U* for Vehicle Compartment Structure in Full-Width Frontal Collisions

Load transfer in a vehicle compartment structure in full-width frontal collisions is discussed. By obtaining the deformation of a body during a collision by using crash computer simulations, the values of index U* for the extracted deformed body at each instant are statically calculated. The load transfer in the compartment is shown by the calculated U* distribution. For the calculated vehicle compartment, the load transfer in the lower structure is much larger than that in the upper structure. In the calculated body, several noteworthy features, for example, the effective load transfer in the lower A-pillar, can be pointed out.
