Development of a 1-D Engine Cycle Simulator of a Gasoline HCCI Engine Equipped With Blowdown Supercharging System for Developing Engine Control Strategies

To establish a control system of a gasoline HCCI engine equipped with the blowdown supercharging system proposed in the previous study, a one-dimensional HCCI engine cycle simulator incorporated with ignition and combustion models based on Livengood-Wu integral and Wiebe function was developed. Also, using the developed simulator, the variation of the in-cylinder mixture composition during a mode switching process between HCCI and SI was investigated. As a result, it was found that the operating mode switching from HCCI to SI combustion with acceptable combustion fluctuation could be realized by using the blowdown supercharging system.
