Abstract
The 2-stage and sequential turbo system was proposed in order to improve the torque in low engine speed. This turbo system adopts two different size turbochargers and the adopted turbochargers were variable geometry turbine. In low engine speed the small turbocharger mainly works and in medium engine speed the small turbocharger and large turbocharger mainly work in series. The basic engine is in-line six cylinders with a displacement of 10.5 liters. The engine is equipped with the high pressure fuel injection system and high and low pressure loop EGR system for using the high boosting and high EGR rate in order to reducing BSNOx and PM. In this turbocharging system 50% torque up and a good thermal efficiency were obtained in the low speed region.
