Study of MEA Durability Testing Protocol
Published May 19, 2010 by Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan in Japan
Event: JSAE Spring Conference
Demands for the improvements of performance and durability as well as cost reduction of FCVs lead to the development of new materials such as catalysts and polymer electrolyte membranes. For the purpose of these developments, various methods to evaluate the durability of a new material have been proposed by FCCJ, USFCC and DOE. JARI has examined each of the protocols by investigating the deteriorations of MEA performance and materials after the operation MEA according to the proposed protocols. It was found that to compare the stability of Pt, the proposed protocols should be applied to catalysts supported on a more durable carbon material.
