Development of Honeycomb ECR Module in Simultaneous Reduction of NOx and PM

Electrochemical reduction (ECR) method of diesel particulate matter (PM) and NOx has been developed. The experiments were conducted for a GDC honeycomb module having a porous solid oxide electrolyte. On the cathode, alkaline earth metal is coated for NOx storage. Due to the forced flow of oxygen ion from cathode to anode (oxygen pumping) simultaneous reductions of PM and NOx are performed by applying the voltage to both electrodes. The JC08 mode tests have been carried out using the partial-flow dilution tunnel system and the diesel engine of EUROIV compliant. The result shows that honeycomb module decreases NOx level from 0.395 to 0.102 g/km and PM level from 0.1025 to 0.0028 g/km.
