Published May 20, 2009 by Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan in Japan
Event: JSAE Spring Conference
Major attempts will be taken in the short-, mid-, and long-term future in order to cope with the future legal requirements but also to reduce fuel consumption of heavy-duty vehicles.
The paper describes concepts and ways to improve efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions of medium- and heavy-duty trucks even in long haul operation. A short-, mid-, and long-term perspective is given applying continuous improvement using known technologies, introducing downsizing and downspeeding in combination with electrification of the powertrain, and finally applying a secondary process to the conventional and improved combustion engine.
