Further CO2 Reduction for Future Power Trains
Published May 20, 2009 by Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan in Japan
Event: JSAE Spring Conference
To achieve further significant CO2 reduction, a bundle of measures for both gasoline and diesel power trains are suggested, e.g., the 2nd generation of downsizing for t/c engines with further increased specific power, the introduction of a variable compression ratio (VCR) and valve train variabilities are just some of the potential ways to lower CO2 emissions for gasoline engines. Downsized diesel engines with improved combustion process, the increased use of alternative fuels in combination with transmission and vehicle measures help to achieve higher efficiency for future diesel power trains.
