Abstract
Because of environmental protection legislations and high energy prices, the automotive industry has to develop propulsion systems that are “green” and economic at the same time. Internal combustion engine concepts such as downsizing, supercharging and an increasing proportion of diesel and alternative fuel engines require advanced engine components. Especially the suppression of lead in bearing alloys (EU-directive) and higher mechanical loads call for better sliding bearings (bushings).
This paper shows a superior bushing type that overcomes major drawbacks of currently utilized “wrapped” bimetal bushings. The bushing material is a continuous cast lead-free plain metal tube with advanced mechanical characteristics.
