Abstract
FCX CLARITY, Honda’s new fuel cell vehicle (FCV), has achieved a new FCV sedan form that sets it apart from the internal combustion engines vehicles, by taking full advantage of the package/layout freedom that has been enabled by the newly developed “HONDA V FLOW Fuel Cell (FC) Stack”. The biggest advantage of fuel cell vehicles is—besides being zero emission vehicles—that they have a great potential of changing automobile package/layout and design by distributing their power plant, which is not possible with internal combustion engines. To develop the FCX CLARITY specifically as a fuel cell vehicle, a platform was developed with power plant components achieving dramatically higher efficiency and reduction in size. As a result, highly efficient FCV sedan package, carrying a compact FC stack in its center tunnel, has been made possible, and the new FCV sedan form has led to a highly practical and attractive product.
