Abstract
Competitive Opportunity Management (COM) is a set of innovation-based concepts, tools and processes that provide structure for the comprehensive identification of business opportunities. This structure evolves in a logical, step-by-step manner and is a means of developing a solid foundation for defining the totality of future business opportunities in a context that can be highly leveraged. The culmination of this effort results development of an underlying structure that clearly maps how virtually all business opportunities can and will evolve toward clearly defined long-range trends. COM provides definitive tools at the front end of the generic product development cycle where only vague methods exist today, allows for the sequencing of opportunities and provides a basis for combining discrete elements into new strategies that enable decision making at the top levels of the organization.
