Application of Micro Cassegrain System to In-Cylinder A/F Measurement Under Cold Start condition

In this study, in-cylinder A/F near the spark plug was measured under cold start condition by using micro Cassegrain system. A practical engine and spark plug-type micro Cassegrain sensor were used for measurements. THC at the exhaust pipe and A/F obtained by O2 sensor were measured simultaneously. The micro Cassegrain system enables the cycle-resolved A/F measurement of cyclic variation just after engine starting that cannot be measured by using O2 sensor. A/F near the spark plug changed rich to lean and it became almost constant after 50th cycle. THC emission at the exhaust pipe was higher when the A/F near the spark plug was rich just after engine starting. Furthermore, the difference of A/F cyclic variation between two injectors was measured and compared under cold start condition.
