Abstract
Complexity of disc brake design and increased performance demands on disc brakes has required deeper analysis and improved understanding of every design parameter and their optimization for performance. CAE tools facilitate design and analysis for engineers, who can now not only characterize the effect of various design parameters individually but also can run through various what-if scenarios efficiently. This paper focuses on the analytical processes to improve the basic understanding relative to operational characteristics of a disc brake. A streamlined approach to parameter selection and tiered structure design studies is discussed to optimize the disc brake performance.
