Abstract
Given the lack of sufficient data for children, it is difficult to validate the impact response of a child dummy or a child FE model. In this study, multi-body simulations along with optimization techniques were used to estimate impact conditions based on the information from in-depth pedestrian accident data for a select case. FE child model simulations incorporating failure criteria were run under these conditions to compare between predicted and observed injuries. The results showed that the model is capable of predicting the lower limb injuries observed in the accident within the estimated bone material property variation.
