Finite-Element-Based Implementation of Fiala's Thermal Manikin in THESEUS-FE

Thermal management topics like air-conditioning and thermal comfort become more and more important during vehicle development. As a consequence the need for suitable tools and methods to predict the human comfort behavior in cabins increases rapidly. To satisfy this demand P+Z Engineering GmbH developed a new thermo-dynamic software package called THESEUS-FE and implemented an advanced thermal sensation model of humans called FIALA-FE. The process is fully controlled by THESEUS-FE, which solves the whole metabolic cycle of the human body and heat exchange with the surrounding. THESEUS-FE is using a highly efficient implicit finite-element-based solver and state-of-the-art iterative solution techniques to meet the given financial pressures in today's automotive industry and to achieve the tough time and quality targets. This paper will demonstrate the advantages and functionalities of THESEUS-FE focused on the new implemented FIALA-FE passenger model.
