Abstract
Using Natural Resources Canada's GHGenius model, this research examines a selected number of fuels that could, by 2020, make a substantial contribution to the light-duty vehicle fleet. Through quantifying the energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and macroeconomic costs, the viability of each fuel pathway is investigated. Considering these life cycle factors offers a reasonable delineation of specific fuel pathways. However, regulatory and policy measures need to be further evaluated in the context of feedstock availability, practicality, opportunity costs and customer acceptance.
