Abstract
A hydrophilic surface is necessary in evaporator applications in order to facilitate drainage and good heat transfer properties. To construct a surface with high wettability of a more permanent character, a surface with a porous morphology seems to be necessary. Sol-gel derived silica xerogel in a porous matrix of colloidal silica nano-particles may be a strategy coupled to usage of antimicrobial substrates is to be advised in order to prevent bad odor from evaporators. Copper shows biostatic effects, however knowledge about the system is essential in order to ensure that a true biostatic effect is retained.
