A sensor fusion obstacle recognition system that fuses a millimeter wave radar and a stereo vision system has been developed for the Pre-Crash Safety (PCS) system. PCS is a system that judges the collision possibility, operates Pre-Crash Brake and Pre-Crash Sheet Belt, etc., at an early stage, and reduces the collision damage. The sensor fusion obstacle recognition system uses the more detailed relative position information of a target and a vehicle having this system. And this system has succeeded in greatly improving the detection performance of pedestrians that algorithm would have difficulty in detecting up until now.
