Turbocharged GDI~The Most Cost-Effective Solution for High Fuel Economy and Low Emission

Homogeneous GDI-Turbo concepts will become the most attractive technology to fulfill highest fuel economy, emission and performance requirements simultaneously. The low emission capability of GDI enables turbocharged ULEV-II concepts within moderate cost on the emission and aftertreatment system. The outstanding low end torque and high specific power and torque output of such GDI-Turbo concepts enable high fuel efficiency combined with excellent fun to drive. On top, they enable cost-effective new hybrid concepts. The paper describes not only the potential of such GDI-Turbo concepts, but also the key elements, technical issues and solutions for such achievements in detail.
