Abstract
Various configurations of high-pressure loop EGR system for a heavy-duty turbocharged diesel engine were studied using 1D and 3D CFD. Dual EGR passage between the intake and exhaust manifolds with 'Exhaust-pulse Ejector' at junction of the exhaust manifolds were found to be promising with respect to higher EGR ratio at high load, less pumping loss and higher volumetric efficiency. A reed valve in each EGR passage was found to be effective in that respect. It was also found that combination with intake-resonance charging could enhance above effects. Some of such effects have been experimentally proved on a real engine.
