Abstract
The demand of exhaust gas purification and further fuel economy improvement is increasing for a two-wheel small vehicle as well as for an automobile. Therefore, the adoption of fuel injection system is increasingly being felt. This system consists of the five main functional elements. The Fuel Feed Pump (FFP) module of a two-wheel small vehicle can usually be installed in a tank, when the space volume is comparatively large. However, when the space volume is comparatively small in some cases, it has to be installed outside the fuel tank.
Then, for installing FFP module out of fuel tank that is the in-line type FFP module, a novel research and development was carried out so that the system might be compact and could be offered at a low price. The new in-line FFP module has the filter room for air and fuel separation. Moreover, the brushless motor has been developed so that fuel does not pass through the inside of the motor.
Since the supply system of fuel was downsized and simplified successfully, the FFP module, the fuel pressure regulator and the mechanical fuel cut valve are attached directly to the fuel injector holder on the intake pipe.
The new in-line FFP module can contribute to the compact and low-cost design system for a two-wheel small vehicle with relatively small fuel tank.
