Abstract
Oxidation stability is one of the very important performance
requirements for Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). JASO M315
specification requires Indiana Stirring Oxidation Test (ISOT) to
evaluate ATF oxidation stability but it has not been discussed well
so far if ISOT is really an appropriate method when actual
situation of Japanese market is considered.
Data collected from various sources in this study suggests that
ISOT is a very useful tool for screening ATF not only since it is
widely available in Japan but also it can provide acid number
increase values which are well correlated to those in actual
vehicles.
