Abstract
This report explains improved engine friction calculation procedure used to develop new HR (L4, 1.5 L) and MR (L4, 2.0 L) engines. Engine friction calculation is preceded for every single moving part, and then cost-effective friction reduction items were selected for these engines. It also included detailed description and test results of the selected friction reduction technologies for the valvetrain and the cranktrain. As the result, new HR and MR engines could achieve to reduce total mechanical friction by 30% without increasing cost.
