Virtual Vehicle NVH Design: Panels Shape and Damping Optimization by Means of GOLD

Increasingly demanding cost and time constraints in vehicle NVH design have highly reduced the efficiency of standard methods. The large number of variables involved and their mutual interaction make the achievement of design targets much more difficult, even if simulation is employed. To support the solution of this difficult problem, Rieter has developed GOLD, a new powerful tool based on Genetic Algorithms, which has been successfully used to solve practical optimization problems with very large numbers of variables. GOLD exploits numerical simulation for the evaluation of acoustic and structural response and is very flexible, being suitable for a wide range of applications in virtual vehicle NVH design.
