Abstract
This paper demonstrates how CAE technologies allowed to shorten
the development cycle in a collaboration project between MMC &
LMS.
A concept study using mesh morphing ensured that the platform
was suitable for multiple upper bodies. This allowed to frontload
design decisions to the pre-CAD stage and lead to a higher quality
of the first drawings.
A CAE-based development process allowed effective optimization
of platform and upper body. Advanced contribution analysis helped
to quickly detect weak points. Simultaneous optimization of
multiple attributes (vehicle weight, NVH, ride comfort, durability,
BiW rigidity,...) leads to a global optimum.
The combined application of mesh morphing and an efficient
CAE-based development process allowed to eliminate 1 series of
physical prototypes, reducing development time and cost.
