Abstract
As for spark ignition engine, lean burn and EGR burn are developed to improve engine efficiency. The turbulence in a combustion chamber must be intensified to achieve wide range air-fuel ratio operation. Generally, increase of piston speed enhances combustion speed. However, the effectiveness of the piston speed can't be optimized because the piston speed is zero at TDC position, where the combustion is most affected. On the other hand, multi-link connecting rod enables asymmetric piston speed toward the crank angle and improved lean-burn combustion exceedingly.
