Abstract
Not long ago, an in-dash CD player was considered state-of-the-art for in-car entertainment. Contemporary infotainment and telematics systems include audio, video, voice recognition and synthesis, wireless networking, navigation, internet access, and safety/security features, sometimes running on a single microprocessor. This complexity puts an increasing burden on the microprocessor's operating system. Next-generation infotainment systems require next-generation operating system architectures that can handle this challenge.
