Abstract
Military and Avionics require extremely high quality and reliable products. Extensive testing and debugging along with robust and redundant design methodologies are implemented to meet these goals. On the contrary, the Consumer and Wireless Telecommunications markets are much more sensitive to cost, time-to-market and performance. Today, for a given application, the cheapest, fastest and smallest product to reach the consumer will be the most successful. Automotive has become the most stringent market: very “cheap” products manufactured with leading-edge technologies while meeting the highest quality and reliability levels are required. This is the “Automotive Challenge” and only a few semiconductor suppliers have risen to the occasion accepting this Challenge!
