Abstract
This paper outlines the benefits of using tough silicone adhesives that have a ‘fast-cure’ and can be adhered to difficult substrates. A ‘fast-cure’ adhesive is defined as any adhesive that can either be fully cured in ten minutes or partially cured (sufficient for handling) in five minutes, with a full cure attained in one work shift (eight hours). A ‘difficult’ substrate is simply any substrate that lacks reactive groups available for bonding (such as – OH groups), giving the material a low surface energy. Perfect examples of difficult substrates are graphite or PTFE.
