Our previous report analyzed the adsorbed odor with sensory test and instrumental analysis, and clarified the components. The odor tends to become noticeable while the air conditioner is operated with the compressor turned on and off. This operating pattern is increasingly used recently for energy-saving purpose. This report describes a method that enables us to simulate the odor-adsorbing process in various car air conditioner operating modes corresponding to those actually employed on a car. By analyzing resulting odors, we have identified the components of inherent odors that smell while the compressor is turned off, and compiled a guideline to decrease it.
