Abstract
The internal flow in the fully open stage, opening and closing stage within an automotive fuel injector with flat disc type armature are studied in this work. The physical domain includes the region from top of the armature to the exit of the injector orifice, where most of the pressure drop occurs. Because of symmetry, only one quarter of the physical domain is considered. The FLUENT software was applied to obtain the numerical solutions.
In this model, the flow was assumed to be isothermal and incompressible.
Predicted static flow rates provide good agreements with the experimental measurements. For the transient condition, 20, 40, 60 and 80 micrometer of armature lift was modeled. The main results included comparisons between pressure and velocity contours in the various armature lifts and also variation of outlet flow velocity and flow rate, Discharge coefficient vs. armature lifts were studied.
