Abstract
SELENE-B (SELenological and Engineering Explorer - B) mission is a engineering mission to demonstrate key technologies needed for succeeding moon and planetary exploration missions. The SELENE-B spacecraft will land softly on the lunar surface, and release a rover. The lander and the rover will allow the gathering of scientific data on the lunar origin and evolution. The thermal environment on the lunar surface is severe since there is no atmosphere, and the lunar soil has extremely low thermal diffusivity. This paper will discuss the thermal design of the SELENE-B lunar surface module.
