Abstract
As part of a UK Government programme to determine emissions factors for a variety of vehicles, regulated and unregulated motorcycle exhaust emissions were measured. The aim of the study reported here was to investigate the regulated emissions from a range of twelve different motorcycles with respect to various drive cycles, engines and after-treatment technologies. Unregulated emissions are covered in an accompanying paper [1].
Testing was conducted over three drive cycles described by the following directives: 97/24/EC (Chapter 5, Annex 2), 98/69/EC (automotive cycle) and WMTC version 7 (developmental cycle).
Comparative regulated gaseous and unregulated particulate emissions results are presented between different motorcycles and between the various drive cycles. The testing was conducted using a motorcycle CVS system modified to include a dilution tunnel, which allowed the collection of particulate mass onto filter papers.
