Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to describe Victocor 500 head gaskets designed with the Victor Reinz Sealing System Approach. This analysis yields quantitative results through FEA simulation, bench tests and metallographic analysis. This approach has been very successful in sealing and evaluating the cylinder head-to-block joint. It allows us to fine-tune the gasket design and provide a near final design prior to customer engine testing. Furthermore, we gain an understanding of how these complex joints react to different loading conditions, which can be used to improve the engine in the design stage.
