Development of DriverS Muscular Fatigue Evaluation

An important issue in automotive seat comfort is how to reduce driver's physical fatigue, such as low back pain. In this paper, we tried to understand physical fatigue quantitatively by the viscoelasticity of lumbar muscle. First, the viscoelasticity of biomaterials close to the muscular property was measured, and the behavior was compared with the behavior of fatigued arm's muscle. Next, a long-term driving test by using a driving simulator was conducted, and we found a quantitative evaluation method from the result of lumbar muscular viscoelasticity change before and after the test.
