Abstract
The Indy Racing League (IRL) is an Oval track, open wheel single seater series based around its flagship event, the ‘INDY 500’. The series will start its eighth Season in 2003 and designs are underway for new chassis, engine and gearboxes, which will run from 2003-2005 inclusive. This will be the third ‘Spec.’ transmission the series has used; each design has evolved from the previous one to improve its reliability and the performance and safety of the racecar.
