Spray and emission characteristics of premixed combustion type diesel engine using hollow cone spray

In the present work, the characteristics of conical spray are evaluated by the PDA measurement and numerical simulation of KIVA-3V code, and furthermore the combustion characteristics of proposed engine are also examined. The spray formation patterns are compared between experiment and numerical simulation. On the whole, good agreements between them are obtained. It is also cleared that the spray formation is strongly influenced by the surround pressure. From the combustion experiment, expected premixed combustion region realized around the injection timing of 65 degree BTDC, where NOx and soot emissions are nearly equal to zero at air excess ration of 3.1.
