Virtual measurement of complicated surface in reverse engineering

Abstract
Quality of composite triangular Bézier patch reconstructed from measuring points is usually not good enough to apply in engineering. A virtual measuring method is proposed to solve this problem. First surface region with bad quality is extracted and vertices of the surface region are approximated with B-spline surface. Then the B- spline surface is used as a new local virtual model to finish re-sampling and meshing. At last the local triangular meshes are merged with the initial one. As a conclusion, example is shown to demonstrate feasibility of the algorithm for improving the local surface's quality.
