Abstract
Different direct and indirect methods for establishing stress are to be applied to a rectangular specimen and an industrial component in order to assess the influence of the process parameters that prevail during heated tool welding on stress cracking.
The indirect methods to be used are wetting tests and photoelastic strain analysis.
The direct methods to be employed for establishing individual stresses are drilled hole tests and finite element analyses.
The results of these studies are then to be compared in respect of the information they provide, and the outlay involved in the methods is to be estimated by comparison with each other.
