Abstract
This paper describes a new design for ABS drum brakes. The design uses some components associated with electric trailer brakes. Similar to electric trailer brakes, a cam is rotated by the friction force of an electromagnet acting on the brake drum. The cam releases the brakes in proportion to the rotation of the cam. The design has the advantage of providing proportional reduction in brake torque and fast response times. Expensive components such as pumps are not required and no pedal vibration is introduced. Test data and testing procedure is included.
