Abstract
Thermoplastic composites are well adapted to fit the requirements of the automotive industry (low density, short cycle time, good recycling). In order to broaden their fields of applications, several developments have been performed to obtain economical and versatile process.
Both economical and versatility targets are reached with the “one shot” extrusion-compression molding process XRE™ developed by FAURECIA. This process allows the combination of any kind of thermoplastic resin with a wide range of fibers, additives or fillers tailored to attempt the product profile of the parts. This patented process is already used by FAURECIA for the industrial production of the front-end of the Peugeot 206.
