The potentials of surface wave technology for the Darmstadt Tire Sensor

Based on the research results achieved in the Sonderforschungsbereich 241 of Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft at Darmstadt University of Technology with the Darmstadt Tire Sensor, first results of a new passive SAW Tire Sensor tested on the linear test bench LINUS of the Automotive Engineering Department (fzd) will be presented.
These results show the basic suitability of the sensor to analyze dynamic processes in the rolling tire and to determine the current conditions and condition changes in the contact area of the tire.
The special charm of this SAW Tire Sensor is that it requires no energy supply battery and provides all information via a radio link.
