Abstract
The historical background of military jet pilots training is summarized, with emphasis on the advanced phases. The main events and trends are outlined and an attempt is made to foresee the likely developments in the near / medium term. The European role is specifically addressed, both for the past and the future, since a joint program for European pilots training is emerging, resulting eventually in the joint procurement of a new advanced training system.
