Abstract
A continual need in motorsports is the acquisition of dimensions of the chassis and body of a race car. This paper describes a new technology that has been developed that allows the Cartesian co-ordinates in three-dimensional space of any point on a full size race car to quickly be captured with an accuracy of almost 1/32 of an inch. Significantly, this technology allows the measured vehicle to be re-oriented during the data acquisition or at any later time.
