Abstract
The theoretical analysis and experimental results of tests on burning of deeply stratified charge in the bi-modal combustion chamber is presented. Tests were performed in a constant volume modeling chamber and in a car's engine. Constant volume combustion modeling allows evaluating optimum parameters for effective combustion of deeply stratified charge in the bi-modal combustion chamber. Theoretical calculations of the variation of some thermodynamical parameters under engine conditions for the homogenous and stratified charge are presented, showing adventures of stratified charge combustion. Investigation shows that elaborated method of organization of the combustion process of the stratified charge allows essential improving the technical, economical and ecological performances of the engine. Under optimum engine conditions specific fuel consumption under all condition decreases by 10-15 % and the power increases by 5 - 7 %, also emission of unburned hydrocarbons CHx does not exceed 20-50 ppm and emission of the carbon oxide (CO) does not exceed 0.2-0.3 % under the idling conditions. The maximum emission of nitrogen oxide (NO) takes place on the nominal engine load and does not exceeds 1000-1200 ppm, and at main exploitation loads NO emission does not exceed 500-600
